How can Umbrella Company employees specialising in IT or oil & gas gauge how well their fields of expertise are fairing? The answer is to look at the performance of Opus Recruitment Solutions.

The conclusion to be drawn from Opus’s phenomenal success is that the jobs and contracts markets in each of these specialisms is in rude health.

Six-year-old Opus is heading for its best year to date, with turnover confidently expected to smash the £23m mark this year. The London- and Bristol-based firm saw turnover rocketing by 133% between 2011 and 2013, up from £5.9m to £13.74m.

The company’s success has in part been facilitated by resurgent investment in IT, with the loosening of the purse-strings driving huge demand for both permanent and contract staff. Opus estimates that as many as 40% of IT employers are looking to expand headcounts in the second half of 2014.

Additionally, even though investment in the ageing North Sea fields has fallen, oil and gas employers are bullishly confident about their prospects over the next two years.

The CEO at Opus Recruitment Solutions, Darren Ryemill, said: “There has been a significant growth in demand in the sectors in which we operate over the last few years, but none more so than since the start of this year.”

He added: “The growth of Opus Recruitment Solutions is indicative of the renewed confidence of the economy and it is our intention to continue investing in our business and our people to ensure that we continue to move forward in what is an exciting time for the company.”
