A new online jobs board catering exclusively to the UK’s growing professional contracting community will go live today to support Mobile Contractor’s existing mobile app.

Not only are more people than ever before turning to Umbrella Companies and other forms of self-employed freelancing but also more are searching for new opportunities from their tablets and smartphones.

Several recent studies have shown UK contractor numbers surging ‒ there was a 41% increase in the last quarter alone ‒ and some commentators believe that self-employment through temporary or contracting roles will become the norm by 2020.

According to Mobile Contractor’s general manager, Marie Malyon, the vast majority of existing jobs boards “don’t seem to be up to scratch” when it comes to keeping pace with burgeoning numbers and fast-moving pace of the UK’s contractor workforce. She said: “Many processes are amended from permanent recruitment, which result in slow turnarounds and a heavy dominance on CVs which are not suited to the fast-moving, short-term freelance market.”

The new Mobile Contractor jobs board will advertise contract jobs from multiple sectors exclusively and is one of the first initiatives of its kind in the UK. It has been developed specifically to serve the contracting community and allows candidates to search, browse and apply for openings from a single central portal.

The free Mobile Contractor App is available for Apple and Android devices.

Ms Malyon continued: “We had already seen a great interest for our mobile app-based version of the site, which has prompted us to develop a website to support the wider contract marketplace that might not have an Apple or Android device.”
