It is no secret that most IT pros, whether contracting Umbrella Company employees or permanent staff, are overwhelmingly male; however, this could be about to change, thanks to the fifth series of an annual event organised by TARGETjobs: IT’s not just for the boys!
The invitation-only one-day meetings will bring highly-talented female undergraduates, who might never before have considered careers in technology, face-to-face with recruiters and women who have made a success in the tech industry. There will be three such events this autumn and a fourth next spring.
Students taking part in the events will participate in team challenges and practical skills sessions designed to highlight their aptitude for teamwork, communication and problem solving. They will learn about the variety of careers the industry offers and, crucially, will have the opportunity to network with top recruiters. Inspiring keynote speakers will be on hand, as will equally inspiring female role models and recent graduates, to give invaluable tips on how the undergraduates can carve a career for themselves in IT.
Partners confirmed for the autumn events include Atos, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, BlackRock, Bloomberg, Capital One, CGI, CHP Consulting, Citi, Credit Suisse, EMC, IBM, London Stock Exchange, Marks & Spencer, National Grid, PwC, Sky, SunGard, TK Maxx (TJX Europe) and Thoughtworks.
Such a glittering line-up is designed to inspire and encourage young women to join an industry that desperately needs new streams of talent, with demand for IT pros consistently outstripping availability.
IT contracting, it would appear, is about to acquire a much-needed infusion of feminine talent.
